Fashionista Friday: Style and Dezine Boutique

This week, a brand new boutique opened downtown Jamestown, Style and Dezine Boutique! I am so very excited to have this boutique in town, close to me! This boutique is close to my heart, not only because the owner, Nancy is a relative and friend, but I am good friends with Nancy’s daughter, my hairdresser, Janelle!

I grew up going and staying over at their home. It was alway my favorite place to have a slumber party! Nancy was that mom who just went out of her way to make you feel at home. I remember, one morning she made Janelle and I Mickey Mouse pancakes. I ate so many pancakes that morning, I couldn’t eat pancakes for years after! No matter what Nancy does, she always goes out of her way to make you feel at home, comfortable, and truly “full” in every sense of the word.

It’s no wonder her first store in the small, local town of Edgeley, was a huge success, that they opened another in Jamestown. I couldn’t be happier for her! I was lucky enough to be there on the opening day, and you could tell, Nancy was just in her element. Doing radio announcements, chatting with customers, and taking time for everyone.

I am now the proud owner of a new handbag and some super cute shoes thanks to the Style and Dezine Boutique! The handbag is so cute for fall! I can’t wait to pair it with a great blazer and scarf! I can be dressed up or down! The shoes are AMAZING! I have been looking for black flats! These have a little heel and could go with an office outfit to a casual outfit with jeans! I can’t wait to wear them!

The new downtown shop has homemade soaps, stylish fashion from several different designers; dresses to tops, to boot socks to lotions, to shoes, to bags. They also have jewelry and fashionable undergarments and leggings. They have it all!

If you haven’t, please go check it out! It is a wonderful boutique and so welcomed downtown Jamestown! Plus the boutique is so cute and industrial-chic! I promise, you’ll find something you will absolutely love!

Happy Friday, loves! Xo

Reverse Travel Bucket List

For those of you who know me, know I LOVE to travel. I am so grateful that my parents took me from little on to see and explore the world. I definitely inherited their love for travel. My husband however, needs a little work… Maybe an arm and a leg pulled to travel! He gets motion sickness when flying. Me on the other hand, I love flying!

There is just something about having a lay-over in a crowded, busy airport around the holidays. Every one is going somewhere, loaded down with their own bags and belongings, excited to see family or friends. It’s just something that I could watch for hours, along with a good cup of airport coffee and of course, a few issues of the latest magazines!

However, these days, flying is a pain in the behind due to all the security, waiting, and lines. Don’t get me wrong, that part I hate. I love just being at the airport and the just the thought of going somewhere; the travel build-up!

I have been that scurrying person, RUNNING through the airport trying to catch my flight. Just last December, when Taylor and I took our second honeymoon/vacation to the Bahamas. Of course, my worst travel experience had to happen with Taylor, who hates traveling. Our plane was late leaving MSP because some guy overdosed and was having a seizure in the back of the plane. Therefore, we were very late for our next flight, so late we missed it at the busiest airport in the world, Atlanta. We also lost one of our bags, but it was a great vacation. Visiting Atlantis, snorkeling with sharks, and swimming with dolphins made up for it! Check out my reviews here and here!

I’ve also been on numerous road trips with my family, driving hours to get our destination. My parents love the mountains, so we made many trips over the summer through Big Sky, to Yellowstone, to Jackson Hole. I learned to bring lost of books, music, and movies and we made some pretty crazy mad libs on the way!

Yep, you guessed it! This post is ALL about travel! I am going to share with you all the places I have been and then finally, my top 10 travel bucket list!

Places I Have Visited:

  1. North Dakota (Of course, where I live!)
  2. South Dakota – Where we took our honeymoon! The Black Hills are so beautiful and definitely worth your time, if you haven’t been! It’s about 7 hours from our farm, but it seems like you are much further away!
  3. Montana – Big Sky and Yellowstone Lake are my favorites!
  4. Minnesota – Of course the Mall of America is always calling my name!
  5. Wyoming – Jackson Hole is just amazing. Hiking in the Tetons is just incredible and breath-taking.
  6. Colorado – Beautiful state and mountains.
  7. Nebraska
  8. Kansas
  9. Georgia – Just to the world’s busiest airport – ATLANTA!
  10. California – GORGEOUS state! San Fran, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Southern Cali and Monterrey are my favorites. There is literally SO much to do and more! Hearst Castle is also a must.
  11. Washington – Seattle is a fun city! For coffee lovers!
  12. Idaho – Home of a dessert and mountains!
  13. Pennsylvania
  14. New York – Up-state and Niagara Falls/Buffalo. The falls are amazing! At night, they are lit up and have fireworks over them.
  15. Ohio
  16. Alaska – WOW! Go to Alaska. Some of the most untouched beauty in the world.
  17. Hawaii – MY FAVORITE. END OF STORY. I love Kauai. I grew up going to the islands with my family. We met great people there and I have so many wonderful memories that I will cherish all of my life.
  18. Texas – Visited my Hess family in the Houston area. It was so fun and the only trip I took all by myself!
  19. Florida – WALT DISNEY!
  20. Canada – Niagara Falls/Ontario area and British Columbia
  21. The Bahamas – Paradise, New Providence, and Blue Lagoon Island. It was amazing. Every since I was little and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen made the movie “Holiday In the Sun”, I wanted to go to Atlantis. I was over joyed Taylor and I got to experience it together.
  22. Tennessee – Nashville is awesome! I can’t wait to go again next summer!
  23. Missouri
  24. Iowa
  25. Illinois
  26. Kentucky – So green and beautiful. We drove through when I was a senior for our band and choir trip. So many trees.
  27. Nevada

Now, that I where I have been, here are my top 10 bucket list places I want to go!

Fall/Spring Cleaning Check List

I pretty much grew up in a family of neat-freaks and I am a proud one myself, to a point. I love coming home or being in a clean, organized home. I sleep better at night knowing my house is clean. I like cleaning when I can take my time and somewhat “enjoy” it. I am on an every-other-week cleaning schedule for my household cleaning, like dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing my floors (yes, I do it by hand) and do touch-ups when needed. I actually schedule my cleaning, otherwise it would never get done!

However, spring and fall cleaning are not my strong points. I HATE cleaning out cabinets, closets, flipping mattresses, cleaning windows, cleaning the oven, and ALL of the above. These are things that I do when they are absolutely needed or else they are so dirty/unorganized I can’t take it anymore! Therefore, I created a schedule to get cleaning when they need it throughout the year and check them off as I go.

Feel free to print and edit the list as needed! Post it on your fridge or even laminate it, so you can use a dry erase marker on it!

Happy Cleaning!!

Homemade Sugar Scrubs

With cooler and drier temps well on their way, my skin always gets dry and icky, especially since I have psoriasis! I always am exfoliating and moisturizing! I am so glad I found this scrub recipe! I love homemade scrubs!

They are made with ingredients you should have on hand and all natural, unlike some of the scrubs you’ll find in your local drugstores! Today, I am sharing with you my favorite homemade scrubs!

Lavender Sugar Scrub

What You’ll Need:

  • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil
  • 1 cup White Sugar
  • 10 Drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • Mason Jars
  1. In a microwavable save bowl, melt the coconut oil in the microwave, so completely melted.
  2. Transfer to a bowl and combine with sugar. Mix well.
  3. Add in the drops of oil. Mix well, and place in mason jar.

Pumpkin Spice Scrub

What You’ll Need:

  • 1/3 cup Coconut Oil (add more, if needed)
  • 1 teaspoon Pumpkin Pie Spice
  • 2 cups Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup White Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 5-8 drops of Cinnamon Essential Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • Mason Jar
  1. In a microwavable safe bowl, melt coconut oil so completely melted.
  2. Combine with sugars, spices, and oil. Mix well.
  3. Store in a mason jar in fridge for up to 8 weeks.

Candy Cane Peppermint Scrub

What You’ll Need:

  • 2 cups White Sugar
  • 1/3 cup Coconut Oil
  • a few drops of Peppermint Essential Oil
  • Mason Jars
  1. Melt Coconut Oil in microwave safe bowl, until melted.
  2. Mix with the sugar and oil.
  3. Divide into two equal portions.
  4. Add either a little red food coloring or raspberry juice to ONE of the two equal portions. So one will be white and the other red/pink on color.
  5. Then, carefully and evenly, layer the red and white portions in the jar for a “candy cane look”!

Makes GREAT gifts! Just simply add a fun label or a pretty bow!

Why I Love Octobers

Octobers are filled with pumpkin spice everything, Halloween candy, and for my fellow farmers, harvest. If you read my blog at all, you’ll probably notice, I love my fall posts. I never used to love fall so much. Let me tell you a story…

Fall to me was like death. I hated fall growing up. All the leaves dying, the brightest green grass turning brown, flowers freezing up and dying, and when the whole planet of North Dakota turns a grayish, brown. I am not quite sure why I didn’t like fall. Maybe because I lost my first grandma in October, when I was 16, then a few months later my paternal grandmother, and another few months, my great grandmother. I’m just not really sure, but now…

I love the autumn season! To me, becoming a farmer’s wife changed me. Autumn is now filled with excitement, primarily because after harvest, my hubby will be in the house more and be home just about when I get home. To me, having someone there when you get home from work, to greet you at the door or help with groceries is the greatest gift. It’s a short lived gift, but still one of the best.

For farmers, harvest means we get our first pay check in close a year. Depending if you have cattle or not, harvest is about the only time farmers are brining in some sort of income, even if it does all go back into their farm operation. About 99% of the time, farmer hardly sees the money they just sweated, worked, and prayed for because it goes directly back into the farm operation. Have you ever filled diesel in a tractor before? Or bought a “new” (used but new to you) piece of equipment before? Do you know how much those guys at John Deere charge for servicing a truck or tractor? You know what I am talking about!

Honestly, fall gets so crazy and busy at times. It’s almost like holding your breath. In the middle of harvest, right before rain is coming, and you have a day and a half left, the combine breaks down. Then, the cows decide that now would be a good time to get out. Sometimes that grass really does look greener on the other side of the fence…

Fall is also just the start of the holiday seasons. The holidays that are spent with family and friends, laughter, and so much love. Here on the prairie, we look so forward to family time because family is SO important. In most cases, we run our businesses with our families and work side by side our parents and grandparents. Family time spent relaxing on the farm are days that are few and far between, but well deserved! Just talking about it, gets me excited to spend time with both sides of our families. By the way, I am hosting Thanksgiving this year… Pray for me!

Now that I am a married farm wife, autumn to me took on a whole new meaning. I am so thankful that I live on the North Dakota prairie where there are 4 seasons in a year. Especially, when the air turns crisp, the leaves are a beautiful golden, orange-red color, the sky is the deepest blue  you’ve ever seen, the harvest is close to done, and our prairie hearts are full. In every way possible.

Have A Happy Weekend

I love getting gifts, but even more than getting them, I like to GIVE them! When I give a gift, I love wrapping them. I just shows so much more went into choosing the gift AND wrapping it. It’s almost like wrapping it in a blanket of love! I like spending a little extra time wrapping and making it extra pretty!

For the longest time, I hated wrapping because I could never get the ends right. I finally taught myself how after watching a few youtube videos. I admit, I WAS a terrible gift wrapper and that is why I never took the time to do it. I feel like today, that is why hardly anyone wraps gifts anymore. It’s just faster and easier to throw it together in a bag. We are forgetting how to wrap!!

So this week, I have been loving pretty wrapping paper, bows, ribbon, and tassels for wrapping! Wrapping just makes me happy! Here are this weeks’ top 10!
