Raiding My Make-Up Bag – 10 Must Haves

Let’s face it. Getting ready for the day is a thing we all do whether we are working full-time, work from home, or are mommies at home. We all have to go out at some point and spend some time in front of the mirror, making sure we don’t leave the house with bed head and dark circles.

Ever since I was little, I always loved makeup. I loved going over and getting ready for church with a total diva, my late grandma. She would paint my nails, blush my cheeks, and add a little lipstick. This is how my love for makeup grew and grew.

Now, I get ready pretty much every day whether for work or church. Weekday mornings are so rushed so, I love getting ready on the weekends when I can really take my time and enjoy putting on my makeup!

Today, I am inviting you into my makeup bag and sharing some of my ultimate favorites with you! It is time to spring clean that make-up bag and update with real products that won’t disappoint! Pinkie Promise!

1. Tarte BB Tinted Moisturizer

I use this everyday! I absolutely would be lost without it! I discovered Tarte at Sephora when I was looking for wedding makeup. Tarte is a natural, Amazon clay that doesn’t clog pores or leave an icky residue. I also love it because it absorbs oils throughout the day to give your face a fresh, matte look all day! I use this as a foundation! Plus is has 20SPF so, you are set with a foundation, moisturizer, and sunscreen all in one! Makes it easy for busy mornings!

2. Naked Palette – Urban Decay

I also splurged and purchased the original Naked Palette when I was shopping for wedding makeup! I still have it and use it! I love it! It is a little spendy when you compare to Walmart eyeshadows, but it is way better quality, plus it lasts forever! I love all the different color combos you can make. It is great from casual to a smokey eye look.

3. Better Than Sex Mascara

I encourage everyone to go out and buy expensive mascara at least once in your life! This beauty runs about $23, but it is so worth it! I got it once from Sephora as a sample and bought it after. I use it for special occasions or the occasional date night. It does not clump and does not flake. I confess, I use Walmart mascara everyday (which I will share next), but sometimes, it is fun to pamper those lashes!

Walmart Brand: Lash Sensational Mascara – Maybelline

4. Colorful Blush – Sephora

This is my favorite blush of all time! Not only will it not break the bank but it is long lasting! Sephora carries several other colors that will match up to your skin tone. This blush even has a hint of sparkle for a perfectly and romantic blushed look!

5. Rouge Shine Lipstick – Sephora Collection

This is another product I use pretty much everyday. I love a good nude, light pink lipstick. I personally use Color No. 3 – Tenderness. It is a beautiful nude pink and is long lasting.

6. Colorful Eyeshadow – Glitter – The Sephora Collection

I also love this shadow. It is a great little touch for under brows or the corners. The greatest part?! It is so shimmery and glittery!! Your eyes will totally light up and shine in any lighting. It is beautiful! I personally have a few different shades, but my faves are Color No. 70 – Fortune Cookie and Color No. 45 – Girl Talk.

7. Retractable Brow Pencil – Sephora Collection

Just this year, I grew my eyebrows out. Thin, barely there brows are not cute and they do nothing for your face. Having thicker, but still shaped brows better frame your beautiful face and that is what they are there for! Here is the perfect guide on shaping your eyebrows:

8. LipLiner Pencil – Marc Jacobs

This liner feels like silk going on and lasts all day! I love a great nude lip liner. You can wear it with any color and still gets the job done. Why outline your lips? They appear softer and have cleaner lines. It also stops bleeding of darker lipsticks. Plus is adds volume. It just looks better overall!

9. Make-Up Setting Spray – Urban Decay

This stuff is magic! I tend to have oiler skin and this stuff is my final step in putting on make-up! Just mist a little over your face and it keeps your face from getting oily plus, it keeps your make-up fresh all day! No need to carry those oil blotting sheets anymore! I also found this when shopping for wedding makeup. I literally use this everyday! I would be lost without it!

10. A Good Set of Brushes

I know, I know make-up brushes are expensive!! Buy a good set right away that way you aren’t buying new brushes every few months because all the bristles fell out. You’ll save money on buying a good quality set the first time, you won’t have to buy another for many years! Sephora (as you can tell I am obsessed with it), has a great variety of brushes with a variety of price ranges. If you haven’t, I recommend buying a set, you won’t regret it! Promise!

All you need is a little blush, a little eyeliner and you’ll be fabulous and ready for your day!

Sunday Dinner: Spicy Turkey Burgers with Mango Salsa

This weekend was busy, but fun! I had a baby shower to attend yesterday, for a friend who is having twin girls! And between church and painting… the rest was a blur.

I have been wanting to do an accent wall in our family room for sometime now, and finally made it Taylor’s birthday present to do some updates in the room that we probably use the most. I got him a tv stand and matching end table. We were still using something we found in his parents basement when we moved in our house, as a tv stand so, it was time for something new and different and something of our own.

I decided on a terra cotta color for the accent wall and it turned out lovely! We were both a little nervous until it dried, because it did look really peachy going on. Thankfully, it dried to the perfect color of a Southwest, organgey-brown, red. It really makes everything else in our family room so cozy and warm. And now, I am inspired to do more accent walls in our house! We’ll see how that goes!

Our new accent wall!

For Sunday Dinner I made spicy turkey burgers with mango salsa on a whole wheat bun! It was yummy, healthy, and the perfect weekend to grill! It is in fact, getting more and more spring like here in North Dakota!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 1 Package of Lean, Ground Turkey (It was 1.5 pounds and made four burgers)
  • 1 Tablespoon McCormick Southwest Seasoning (No Salt Added)
  • 1-2 Teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • Mango Salsa (I cheated and bought some from our local Cashwise grocery store)
  • 4 Whole Wheat buns
  • Avocado, sliced

In a medium bowl, mix turkey, garlic powder, and Southwest seasoning. Form into four equal patties. Place on grill and grill until done on each side. While grilling, cut buns in half. Slice avocado, and prepare salsa. Once burgers are done, place burger on bun and top with mango salsa and slices of avocado. Enjoy!

Did I mention this is 21 Day Fix approved. This meal would equal, one red, two yellow, one blue, and one half purple! Since starting my new lifestyle in January, not only did I lose almost 11 inches but, my Rheumatoid Arthritis has been so much better and my psoriasis has pretty much cleared up and I am now a BeachBody Coach!! I am so excited to help people change their lives through eating and exercise! I will be holding a couple of challenge groups coming up, so if you are interested in trying Shakeology or a BeachBody program, please feel free to contact me with questions! And the best part, I get to be your coach for free!

Happy Monday! Xo

Fashionista Friday: Fabletics

You may have seen a Fabletics ad in your favorite magazine or on a television commercial. I ordered my first outfit back in January when I started my new, healthy lifestyle! New and cute activewear is a great way motivated to workout! I am not sure what it about having something new in your fitness wear department, but it always makes me more excited to workout!

Fabletics is great for that because every month they send you new picks for their latest activewear! When you first sign up, you have to take a computer generated quiz to find out what kind of workouts you do, where you do them, and what you like to show off (arms, legs, abs, etc…). By those results, they send you outfits that fit your own needs! You also enter in your sizes and everything is perfectly sized just for you, whether tall, short, skinny, heavy chested, or bubble butt!

Don’t like the picks for a certain month or getting a new pair or set of workout clothes isn’t in the budget that month?! That’s okay too! Just simply login to your account and skip the month, otherwise you are charged a fee. Easy enough right?!

Fabletics is a fun and fashionable way to treat yourself once a month or however often you choose to get a new workout outfit! Fabletics activewear is all designed by Kate Hudson! It is made to also be fashionable enough to run errands and go out without looking frumpy! And it is so comfy! I not only wear my outfits for working out, but also on the weekends for lounging around the house! (I love me some good quality leggings!)

Speaking of quality, Fabletics is made from quality materials and so far, from all the wear and washing, my outfits show no signs of wear! Plus, your first outfit is only $25!! How great is that!

Have a wonderful weekend! Xo

Sunday Dinner: Southern California Fish Tacos

This weekend was too short by my standards, but so fun! We got to spend all of Saturday with our four nieces and nephews! We spent the afternoon, which was a gorgeous March day in North Dakota, playing baseball, football, doing sidewalk chalk, and visiting. Plus, eating lots of yummy food made by my sister-in-law! After a full day of playing, this uncle and auntie needed a nap! Thank goodness the next day was Sunday!

Last week Monday, we were invited to our Pastor, John’s home for a night of food and visiting! He made us the famous Southern California Fish Tacos! Neither Taylor nor I had ever tried fish tacos! To me, they sounded gross! Fish should never be in a taco, only ground 100% Angus beef (I am being partial since that is what we raise)!

Turns out, we were greatly surprised! They were excellent! Even my very food-fussy husband loved them and suggested that I make them for a Sunday Dinner! So, guess what I made yesterday?!

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 1 package of the small, white corn tortillas, you won’t use all of them
  • Pam or non-stick cooking spray
  • Filets of Tilapia (I used the frozen), Typically one piece of fish can be divided and used for two fish tacos
  • Red Cabbage (1/2 head), Chopped
  • White Cabbage (1 bag)
  • Plain Greek Yogurt (1/2 large container)
  • Honey or Sweetener to taste (I used honey and a few packets of Truvia)
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Black Ground Pepper
  • Cilantro, Chopped
  • 2 Limes
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic Power
  • Onion Powder
  • Cumin

To Make The Slaw:

You’ll want to make the slaw first so it can marinate overnight. Mix together the white and red cabbage, about a half container of Greek Yogurt, and about 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar. I like my slaw pretty vinegar-y tasting, so adjust accordingly. Mix well, so there are no clumps. Then add in the sweetener of your choice. I used about 3-4 packets of Truvia and about 1/4 cup of honey. Add in the juice of one lime. Mix well and sprinkle in some ground black pepper. Put in fridge and let sit overnight.

For the fish, season lightly with salt, pepper, cumin, garlic and onion powder. Squeeze the juice of one lime over fish. Place in preheated 375 degree oven and bake for about 30 minutes, or until done. Meanwhile, on an electric skillet, sprayed will with non-stick spray, spray each tortilla with spray and heat tortillas for a few minutes on each side until soft and pliable.

How to assemble:

Grab a warm, soft tortilla, place one half of a seasoned and baked tilapia on the tortilla. Next, place some slaw and a little chopped cilantro on top! I also served mine with some sliced avocado!

For those of you doing the 21 Day Fix program, one fish taco would equal one red, one yellow, and one green container, and one blue if avocado is served.

Enjoy! And Happy Monday! Xo

Fashionista Friday: Cuffed Jeans and Booties

Good morning and Happy Friday! This Fashionista Friday is a little different than the others so far. It is a fashion trend alert and a how to pull it off without compromising your own personal style or looking like a clown!

It seems that this year the new and greatest trend is cuffed or rolled jeans with booties, heeled, wedged, or flat. Now that spring is in the air, cuffed jeans are more in than ever. For a more spring look, you might swap out your booties with a wedge sandal or a heeled strappy sandal.

As for myself, I finally gave into this trend about two months ago when I found a bargain pair of wedged booties. And if anyone knows me, they know I love my boots! I wear them all the time in the winter! I also am not one to go for certain trends that come out. I kinda like doing my own thing. So, this was a big deal for me. And it turns out I really love this trend! It really grew on me! Plus I love jeggings or skinny jeans, so it worked out well!

Okay, here are some of the basics of cuffing skinny jeans or jeggings. Do not, I repeat do not just simply tuck your skinnies into your boots. This look makes you look like a stubby muffin. Don’t do it.

Second, don’t tuck your booties under your skinnies! This will make anyone look like they have legs for miles. Yes, for short ladies, this is a dream come true, but skinnies pulled over the boot just doesn’t look good. Period.

To pull off a cuffed jean look you can do a low rolled cuff. It looks hipster and messy. Perfect trend to pull off. For you shorter ladies, show a hint of skin on your leg, this will help to break up the cuff and the bootie and help elongate your leg.

Second cuff is a long rolled cuff. Warning, this can make you appear stubby. Tall girls, this one is for you! This will make you look shorter and even out your long legs to your torso.

The next cuff is more of a not skinny jean look. This look looks better and will be pulled off better with a sleek pair of boyfriend jeans that you and actually cuff. This a double cuff and adds a totally different look. Again, make sure to show a hint of skin just so you don’t look stubby.

This week I rocked some booties with dark jeggings and cuffs. I paired it with a black peplum top (From The Mint Julep Boutique) and a colorful statement necklace (From Maurices).

A few weeks ago, I also did a cardigan sweater and tank (From Maurcies) and my $15 bargain booties, from Glicks.

Here are a few great links to some awesome booties that don’t break the bank!

Crown Vintage Sandy Bootie from DSW

Toms Booties

Carlos Booties from Famous Footwear

There! That is my Fashionista Friday lesson on pulling off cuffed jeans and booties like a pro! If you haven’t given in to this trendy look yet, do it! It is so fun and now especially with spring on its way! The same basic rules apply for spring shoes/booties as well!

This weekend, Taylor and I are going to see our nieces and nephews! I can’t wait! What are you doing this weekend?

21 Day Fix, BeachBody, Clean Eating, Fit, Fitness, Fitness Blog, Health, Healthy, Meal Plan, Week One, Working Out

Week One: 21 Day Fix

Well, I survived my first week of the 21 Day Fix Workouts and Meal Plan!! The workouts are not that bad! Yes, I am sore, but nothing worse than some of the other workout DVD’s I have tried in the past.

This week was great for working out, I pushed through it and did a little extra on my elliptical! Eating however, could have been better. I cheated a couple of days and gave in to some Easter candy. Those darn mini Cadburry Eggs are my weakness!! They are so good. But thankfully, Autumn Calabrese created the 21 Day Fix Meal Plan with some wiggle room. Chocolate and wine are allowed, but in moderation and with the proper portion sizes (one yellow container).

If you haven’t heard of the 21 Day Fix, it is basically comes with 9 workouts, you will workout to the main 7, seven days a week, no breaks! The bonus workouts are Plyo Fix, which is a high intensity jumping workout and a 10 Minute Ab Fix, which if done correctly, will hurt to laugh, sneeze, and sit up the next day! The other seven workouts range from high intensity cardio workouts to yoga to upper and lower body fixes. The workouts are only 30 minutes, which is great! Autumn designed the program to have four rounds with four moves in each round. Each move is done for 60 seconds with a 20 second break in between each move to grab water or wipe the sweat off your face. She also shows you each move before you have to do it during this short break period and counts down the moves with you.

Workout Schedule

The meal plan is pretty easy to follow. Autumn also includes an example meal plan to follow and some recipes. Plus Pinterest has TONS of healthy, clean recipes to follow while on your 21 Day Fix journey. Your basic goal is to eat as clean as possible. No processed junk! Autumn also helps you figure out how many containers you need to fit into your days with a simple calorie formula with using the containers you were given for portion sizes. I am in the 1200-1400 a day, which equals out to be 4 red (protein), 3 green (veggies), 2 purple (fruit), 1 blue (healthy fat), 2 yellow (carbs or healthy carbs like corn and peas, yes, peas are a carb!), 1 orange (pumpkin seeds or 21 Day Fix dressings), 2 teaspoons (natural peanut butter, coconut oil, etc…), plus drinking lots of water (about 9-10 cups a day!). And like I said, you are allowed some cheats like chocolate and wine!! Easy right?!

So far, I love it! It is definitely more intense than PiYo, but that is a good thing. The only workout that I am nervous about is the Plyo, just simply because of my arthritis, so we’ll see if I feel super motivated one day to give it a try!

Overall, the hardest part for me is the food and eating good all the time! I never crave candy, but when you can’t have it, you seem to crave it more! My goal this week (and the following) is to stick to the meal plan 100%!! The workouts are great, but the results you get, are made and prepared in the kitchen! Yesterday, I had a major cheat day! We were invited over to our pastor’s home, where he served us with amazing fish tacos and all the trimmings! And the biggest splurge of the night was Ben and Jerry’s ice cream! I hadn’t had ice cream in forever, so it was definitely a wonderful treat, and you can bet, tonight I am going hard when I get home! This Saturday, we are also going up to my Sister and Brother-in-Law’s so that I am assuming will be another “cheat”.

The other thing will be next week, my third week, you are supposed to double up on the workouts. Right now, I workout when I get home in the evening, so I might get up earlier, to get a workout in before I got to work and after I get home. I know I am being overly ambitious, so we’ll see what happens with that next week!

After I am done with my three weeks or 21 days, I definitely plan on doing another, or maybe a couple rounds before I do the 21 Day Extreme. There are a couple different meal variation plans, like The Countdown to Competition meal plan or a 3 day Strict lean protein and veggie diet. Overall, this is a great program and I love it so far… Meanwhile hoping for great results!

Here’s to making better food choices and working out hardcore for the rest of this week! Xo

P.S. If anyone is interested in learning more about PiYo, Shakeology, or the 21 Day Fix, please message, email, or contact me!! I would be more than happy to help you get started on your fitness journey!

Sunday Dinner: Chicken Enchiladas

This weekend was the dreaded “Daylight Savings Time Change”. Loosing an hour however didn’t set me back from cooking and meal prepping for the week and weeks ahead!

I made Unstuffed Pepper Soup in the Crockpot, took out what I needed for the week and froze the rest. I also made Chicken Enchiladas, and froze for next week. And on Sunday, I made a smoked turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. It was a successful weekend!

Today, I decided to share my chicken enchilada recipe with you! Granted, I didn’t take many pictures because I was busy cooking for a good majority of the day and just wanted to be done! Yes, even I get tired from cooking! 😉

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 4 Chicken Breasts, cooked and shredded
  • 1 Cup Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 1 Can of No Salt Added Black Beans
  • 1 Can of No Salt Added Tomatoes
  • 1/2 to 3/4 Cup, Frozen Corn
  • 1 Red Pepper, Chopped
  • 1 Jalapeno Pepper, Chopped
  • 1/2 of an Onion, Chopped
  • 1 package of Whole Wheat or Corn Tortillas (I used whole wheat)
  • Shredded Cheddar and Shredded Mexican Cheese
  • One Batch of Clean Enchilada Sauce

What You’ll Need: Enchilada Sauce:

  • 1 Cup of Low Sodium, Organic Chicken Stock or Broth
  • 1 Can No Salt Added Tomato Sauce
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Oregano
  • 3 Tablespoons Chili Powder
  • A Sprinkle of Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon of Garlic Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon of Onion Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon of Cumin

Mix well with Wisk. Set aside.

For Enchiladas, Preheat oven to 350*. Combine all ingredients, except for cheese and tortillas. Sprinkle in about 1/4-1/2 Cup of Cheddar Cheese. Stir well. Take a 1/2 of mix or more and place in center of tortilla. Wrap up and place in a 9X13 pan, place tortillas close together. Continue this process until you have no more tortillas. Top with Mexican shredded cheese and more jalapenos. Place in oven for about 20-25 minutes or until done. Enjoy!

Happy Monday! Xo
